Crewsafe VHF DSC Maritime Survivor Locating Devices
Transmit GPS position direct to rescuers via VHF radio
Crewsafe VHF DSC Maritime Survivor Locating Devices (MSLD) are the newest generation of man overboard (MOB) devices that safeguard crew from falling overboard undetected and enable rescuers to quickly locate casualties in the water.
By using standard VHF marine radio to transmit distress alerts directly to the people in the best position to carry out a rescue - crew aboard the closest vessels - Crewsafe MSLD operate within the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS). The only equipment required to receive a distress alert from a Crewsafe MSLD is a standard VHF DSC radio. All marine Search and Rescue authorities, SOLAS-compliant commercial vessels and a growing number of leisure craft are equipped with DSC-compatible VHF radios.
Crewsafe MSLD are cost-effective and suitable for use by any individual, maritime organisation and on any type of vessel and are in use by marine professionals worldwide, including:
- Offshore oil and gas service vessels and helicopter transit operators
- Offshore exploration and construction companies
- Port and harbour authorities
- Ocean defence forces
- Commercial fishing fleets, fishfarms and aquaculture
- Rescue authorities
Crewsafe MSLD improve rescue times by transmitting a casualty's GPS position directly to rescuers via VHF DSC radio. Transmissions are made at regular intervals to update rescuers with the casualty's current GPS position - accurate to +/- 10 metres - and will continue for at least 12 hours.
