Commercial Fishing

Whether you're skippering a lobster boat, working on a trawler, crab fishing in the Bering Straits or hauling tuna in the Southern ocean, fishing on a commercial scale is a treacherous environment.

Internationally, the fishing industry is one of the most dangerous workplaces suffering 24,000 human losses annually*. The main cause of these fatalities is persons going overboard undetected and not being found.

Mobilarm's Crewsafe range of man overboard alarm systems is specifically designed to address this situation by providing an instant alarm to the skipper and crew and logging a GPS waypoint on the vessel's plotter if anyone goes overboard.

Each person wears a compact personal transmitter - a Tag - which constantly communicates with a control panel in the wheelhouse. If communication is lost - primarily because the crew member has gone overboard - the system logs a waypoint and raises the alarm in less than 10 seconds. (There is also a duress button on each Tag, allowing crew to manually raise the alarm if they find themselves in danger but not actually in the water.)

Captain and crew know instantly that there is an emergency and can react quickly to save their crew mate. With the position of the boat when the incident occurred logged on the plotter and a strobe light on the tag providing visual homing on the person in the water, it's possible to find the casualty quickly and get them safely back on board. If needs be, the system will also track multiple MOBs.

At Mobilarm, your safety is our priority.
